Roadworks at Crazy Lane, Sedlescombe (Ground Ivy and Cut-leaved Cranesbill)
A roadworks sign reclaimed by the plants which were growing at its feet. The original sign and the plants were observed at Crazy Lane, Sedlescombe - near Hastings in East Sussex on 3rd June 2025.
We are not the only species using our road network to get around. Plants have found refuge on road verges and use them to make their own journeys.
Their slow dispersal across the land weaves stories of agricultural change, garden fashion, urbanization, human migration and climate change - for those with time to look.
